Looks like this came out very light but looking closely this page shows the beginning stages of how I sketch (bottom drawing) and the middle stages as well (top drawing). Wait maybe they’re both finished!?

The only way I can describe the sensation is being “cut off”. I’ve gone through a terrible spell of not being able to draw. Whenever I get started I get a panicky feeling. Its unsettling and depressing. In the last few days I’ve been trying to get my mojo back. Here are a few attempts.

Anonymous asked: Hey, Peter... Nancy here. I hadn't looked at your sketchbook in a while. So glad that you resumed drawing on the train (you told me at one point that you stopped although I wasn't aware of it). Question about this site: what is the camera icon upper left on the sketchbook pages? Did it put a copy of the image somewhere on my computer? I walked past FIT yesterday... won't be long before we start up again. Wed this year. Will I see you there? Anywhere? ... NS

Yes. I pick it up and put it down for periods of time. And what I use it for changes, although only slightly sometime. Lately I’ve been putting my energy into actually painting. And then on the subway I’ve been reading a lot. I think that icon separates that particular image or post from the stream of other posts.

So much is changing in our world. Where are we heading? I find my head buried, more and more, in my art history books, longing for tradition, integrity, and depth.

My books often include personal notes, thoughts, and ideas. Here, I was musing on the nature of approval and how it helps me feel a sense of well being and self comfort. I thought about cloning-out this “personal note”, but then thought in the spirit of transparency I confess, I need approval.
On another note, there’s something about the proportions of this drawing, of this man’s frame that’s so satisfying. His hat too, was so visually appealing; its weave, its striking tri-colored band, its hip contemporary narrative.
